چکیده

Abstract We simulate focusing surface gravity wave groups with directional spreading using the modified nonlinear Schrödinger (MNLS) equation and compare results a fully-nonlinear potential flow code, OceanWave3D. alter direction characteristic wavenumber of MNLS carrier wave, to assess impact on simulation results. Both truncated (fifth-order) exact version linear dispersion operator are used for equation. The based theory quasi-determinism narrow-banded Gaussian spectrum. find that operators both perform well if: (1) aligns group propagation; (2) coincides initial spectral peak. However, simulations significantly better if does not align or coincide also finite-depth dimensionless depths ( $$k_{\text {p}}d$$ k p d ) between 1.36 5.59, incorporating depth into boundary conditions as operator, those code limitations MNLS.

Wave directional spreading from point field measurements

Ocean waves have multidirectional components. Most wave measurements are taken at a single point, and so fail to capture information about the relative directions of the wave components directly. Conventional means of directional estimation require a minimum of three concurrent time series of measurements at different spatial locations in order to derive information on local directional wave sp...

testing plays a vital role in any language teaching program. it allows teachers and stakeholders, including program administrators, parents, admissions officers and prospective employers to be assured that the learners are progressing according to an accepted standard (douglas, 2010). the problems currently facing language testers have both practical and theoretical implications but the first i...

Wave spectral response to sudden changes in wind direction in finite-depth waters

The response of a wind-sea spectrum to sudden changes in wind directions of 180 ° and 90 ° is investigated. Numerical simulations using the third-generation wave spectral model SWAN have been undertaken at micro timescales of 30 s and fine spatial resolution of less than 10 m. The results have been validated against the wave data collected during the field campaign at Lake George, Australia. Th...

Estimation of wave directional spreading in shallow water

This paper describes wave directional spreading in shallow water. Waves were measured for a period of 2 months using the Datawell directional waverider buoy at 15 m water depth on the east coast of India in the Bay of Bengal. The study also showed that in shallow water wave directional spreading was narrowest at peak frequency and widened towards lower and higher frequencies. The wind direction...
